MoNA
During the summer of 2025 Melody Hesaraky served as an artist in residence at MoNA in Kathmandu. Throughout her residency at the Museum of Nepali Art, Hesaraky cultivated a cultural dialogue through her artistic endeavors. Her exploration was profoundly connected to Nepal's architectural legacy, especially the Newari architecture of Patan, which is celebrated for its intricate wood carvings and elaborate details.
The lively neighborhoods of Kathmandu, particularly Thamel, known for their vibrant atmosphere and eclectic energy, infused her paintings with vivid colors and layers. The bustling streets, teeming with life and rich in color, provided a source of inspiration. Hesaraky's artistic practice evolved into a conversation between the contemporary and the ancient, as she aimed to contrast the vibrancy of modern existence with the historical layers that characterize the city. Through her artistic expression, she not only captured the beauty of the physical landscape but also conveyed the emotional depth of living in a place where the past and present harmoniously coexist.
